About SOYWEM

Somali Youth Workers and Equality Movement (SOYWEM) is a local Somali Youth Workers that has been working in Somalia particularly in Hiran and Banadir region since it’s foundation in 2006. After Somali Youth seen injustice in field of job/work opportunity and coordination; a group of Youth in Hiran and Banadir region with wide range of the community founded the organization in order to advocate for equal opportunity of work, peace/human rights, protection, capacity building and youth development programs.

The organization is mandated to non-governmental, non-partisan and non-profit making organization, flexible and committed to provide programs answering to the youth and communities’ basic needs relevant on the current situation in Somalia. SOYWEM is open to all without distinction of origin, race, color or creed, in accordance with the purpose of SOYWEM inception and its existence, but it’s not a person who is affiliated with banned groups or in blacklist.
Our priority is to represent the workers and professionals views of our members in relation to employers, but we have a range of wider concerns as well. Workers are in the process of struggle for democracy and social justice in Somalia since the 2006. We are active in the work to oppose all forms of discrimination and the organization is promoting equal rights of work and skills.

Community development is crucial to the battle against poverty and for social inclusion and lifelong learning, so we have always been in the forefront of this campaign. Students and part time workers need a better deal too, so you will find us vocal on these issues.
The Somali Youth Workers & Equality Movement (SOYWEM) is an independent national organization supports the Somali workers in terms of their rights, opportunities and development programs. SOYWEM’s headquarters are based Mogadishu Banadir region and has sub-office in Beletwein Hiran region SCZ of Somalia.

SOYWEM‘s Board of Trustee consists of seven (7) members (individuals). The board are the decision making arm of the organization charged with networking, recruitment, and other important roles. The Board sits once every three months and in the case of extraordinary meeting, it may be called by 2/3 of BOT or the Chairperson.

As head of the organization, the chairperson is responsible for the direction and control of SOYWEM. He/she directs the work of SOYWEM with the assistance of a vice chair and executive director for Advocacy and Operations.
